Priorities

Government is not about clout or selfish power games. It's about leadership. It’s about creating real solutions when we need them, and Gerald is up to the task.

As our Assemblymember, Gerald will:

EXPAND HOUSING ACCESS

Housing is a human right. But after hanging up my uniform, I didn’t have a home for 9 months. I’m working so no one else goes without a roof over their head — Gerald

  • Proposing and supporting laws to help us raise enough money to cover new and existing affordable housing projects without straining our local, county, or state
    budgets.

  • Working local organizations to deliver affordable housing projects for our veterans, young people, farmworkers, seniors, and working families.

  • Providing affordable home insurance and wildfire mitigation options to protect us from future incidents like the Monte, Border 2, and Henderson Fires earlier this year.

  • Incentivizing local governments to build more projects that meet housing needs while preserving North and East County’s charm and character.

  • Removing red tape to make permitting easier for affordable housing developers.

  • Investing in new affordable housing projects and repurposing old buildings for housing.

  • Incentivizing multi-family housing development and diversifying existing housing options where it makes sense.

TACKLE THE COST OF LIVING

As a proud member of a union family and a former union auto worker, I know that all working people deserve a real chance to thrive. That's why I'm fighting to help our hardworking families stay afloat in these difficult times — Gerald

  • Keeping our fire and rescue services running through state and community partner funding sources while keeping our tax dollars in our pockets.

  • Requiring more oversight and smarter spending in local school district budgets.

  • Protecting working families’ right to organize for fair wages and working conditions.

  • Proposing laws to reduce our ballooning health costs and promote transparency in our hospital bills.

  • Partnering with SANDAG to bring rural families affordable, cost-effective local transportation options such as neighborhood shuttles.

  • Expanding tax relief for veterans, unhoused folks, and working families by proposing smart changes to our tax code.

INCREASE ACCESS TO OPPORTUNITIES

“Our family came here for the American Dream. Now, I’m
running to keep that dream alive.”

  • Securing funding for more job centers in North and East County to bring opportunities closer to home.

  • Providing incentives to encourage small and large businesses to invest in our district.

  • Creating reasonable development policies to help our local economy grow so both local businesses and working families can thrive.

  • Increasing access to capital funding and professional development resources for small businesses and job seekers.

  • Developing creative, cost-effective solutions to keep our local schools, colleges, and job centers fully funded.

  • Expanding career training options and mental health access for veterans transitioning out of the service through partnerships with the County and the San Diego Workforce Partnership.

  • Eliminating unfair tax loopholes so small businesses and regular folks can have a fair shot.
